Update: Burroughs Community School
KARE 11 has the backstory, too.At least 200 parents rallied Monday night in a park across the street from Burroughs Community School on behalf of their embattled principal, Tim Cadotte.
The parents who organized the event in Lynnhurst Park told KARE they invited Cadotte but he declined. They said district administrators ordered Cadotte, who has headed Burroughs since 1999, to avoid contact with parents even off school grounds.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune also carried the story of the parent/student rally in support of the Burroughs principal... however, they did cover a little more than KARE 11. The alleged arguement between Minneapolis school board member Chris Stewart ("All I have is a hammer, and all I see are racist nails") and principal Tim Cadotte apparently stems back to a letter... this letter has been mentioned in most of the recent news stories regarding Burroughs....parents say the damage has been done because students are asking why. "When I had to explain to my daughter today why Cadotte is not there, and what the allegations are, that's a hard conversation to have," parent Faith McGown said.
Kids were sent home with a letter on Monday to inform parents of principal Cadotte's absence.
In any event, the story from the Strib mentions visitors to the rally.
It looks like the Coalition of Black Churches has a history of defending Chris Stewart. Look to a piece written at Anti-Strib.com.Members of the Coalition of Black Churches/African-American Leadership Summit showed up at Monday's rally to say that Burroughs parents should consider how the letter might be offensive to some people.
One line of the letter referring to the Spanish-language program said, "Keeping these students and the staff who serve them is preferable to replacing these students with nother group of students to address the identical issues of diversity and chievement."
I'd be curious to see if Chris Stewart has any more connections, direct or indirect, to the Coalition of Black Churches and/or the African-American Leadership Summit.
If I were a betting man, I'd put down a little wager.

You may be interested in a little history about Chris Stewart that was published on my blog at the time that he was elected to the Minneapolis school board, including a private conversation I personally had with him when the story broke (the day AFTER the election) that he was actually behind the rather ugly race-baiting web page parody that got Tammy Lee's campaign in a flap. See here.
Boy are you gullible. Chris Stewart is only sad that he git busted. His posts over years in American Hot Sausage show a hateful, mean, vindictive, racist.
Chris is a great politician in that he can lie like Bill Clinton.
Are you speaking of me being gullible or the original poster? At the time I wrote the original posts, in 2006, I was willing to listen to Mr. Stewart and try to keep an open mind, as I knew only as much about him as I had gleaned from news reports before the election, which at that point was precious little, and I didn't particularly want to fall for a possible electoral dirty trick.
I was less than impressed by his (belated) explanation and excuses, however, and knowing that history, I don't have the slightest inclination whatsoever to believe him now over Tim Cadotte, believe me. I simply offered up the post to offer a historical example of the sorts of things Chris Stewart says when confronted with accusations of race-baiting.
Sorry, I read your article and got the impression that you believed that Chris was actually sorry about what he did to Tammy Lee. He isn't.
Chris is a race baiting loser and the fact that a good principle has lost his job over this is sickening. The parents of Minneapolis need to tell the school board that this is simpy not acceptable.
Chris needed to resign 2 years ago, he now needs to be removed.
If we give Chris Stewart the benefit of the doubt, we're still left wondering why the principal was put on paid leave and why Chris Stewart called the principal, the school, and the parent/faculty committee racists.
It all smells.
This is just another person I am sick and tired of hearing from in Minnesota. If Black Americans don't like being excluded than start parenting your children to take part in society and create peace in your own environments. Stop calling those who do not want to deal with your children's behavior racist. Immigrants come here not speaking english and they take EVERY advantage in education that is offered and their children excel. This puts us to shame.
This is not just in Minnesota. I have lived on the East and West Coasts, in the South, as well as here in Minnesota. It is the same everywhere. Everything goes downhill when certain elements enter a community. The biggest element is lack of respect for life. It is not about race. It is about kids that have no respect for others and do not care if they lose their own life.
I am black and afraid of black men and boys. I hate the image and glorification of the ghetto. I hate being embarrassed when I step on the bus and see the ignorance and laziness. Yes, laziness.
Start being better parents and create the environment that you want for your children.
Stop complaining about where people don't want you to be. There is a reason, and until you change that you can holler racist all you want...forcing them to take children that you cannot control yourself is not going to work. They will only tear down the positive environment that existed before they came.
I only had a few minutes and wanted to post this somewhere hoping someone will hear me.
